Council recently adopted legislation to
establish an Alternative Energy Zone (AEZ) for Summit County
(one of only seven in the State of Ohio, and the only one in
Northeast Ohio). In June of 2010, the Ohio Legislature passed a
bill that gave renewable and advanced energy source providers
tax breaks on the energy they provide. The State bill also
provided counties with the option of creating an AEZ, which
eases the approval process from the Ohio Department of
Development in establishing these types of businesses in Summit
County. This new
brochure
is an initial step in marketing the new Summit County AEZ to
alternative energy businesses.
A limited number of hard copies are
available, upon request, at the County of Summit Department of
Community & Economic Development.

As Chair of the Summit County Green Policy Task Force, I'm
always on the look out for new ways for us to be a little
"greener" as a community. Check out this
flyer regarding "Lights Out Ohio" on Earth Day, Thursday
April 22nd. What a great way for all of us to take a moment and
do our part.

I recently visited some folks in Barberton, and I found out
about this great organization called "The Giving Doll." This
group of volunteers hand makes dolls to give to those children
in need, and they can really make a difference in a young
child's life.
Right now, The Giving Doll group is in need of volunteers to
help make the dolls, as well as materials to construct them such
as poly fil, hair colored yarn, woven cotton and cotton blend
fabric. They hold Giving Doll groups across the area that
you can join to help.
Please check out their website at

for more information or to find out how you can help!

Here is some interesting information I found from the Ohio
Third Frontier website:
"The Ohio Third Frontier
represents an unprecedented and bipartisan commitment to
expand Ohio's technological strengths and promote
commercialization that leads to economic prosperity
throughout Ohio. Designed to build world-class research
programs, nurture early-stage companies, and foster
technology development that makes existing industries more
productive, Ohio Third Frontier creates opportunity through
innovation.
"Ohio's $1.6 billion Third Frontier initiative is a
comprehensive, professionally run effort to build
world-class research capacity, promote interaction between
research and industry, and commercialize R&D."
