The Medical Examiner issues death certificates, determines cause of death, and provides information and assistance to courts in criminal cases.

With major advancements in forensic medicine and forensic pathology in the past decade, the Medical Examiner's Office has become even more integral in the process of investigating crime.

In fact, every investigation where fatalities are involved starts in the Medical Examiner's Office. After initial evaluation by the Medical Examiner's Investigators, the office will determine what course of action to take and how to interact with law enforcement agencies in order to move the investigation forward.
