Communications
Jill Hinig Skapin is the Director of Communications for
Summit County Executive Russell M. Pry.
Ms. Skapin began consulting on political and issue campaigns in
1987. Her clients included Ohio House Speaker Vern Riffe, Ohio
Attorney General Anthony J. Celebrezze and Senator John Glenn, Edwin
Shaw, Akron Summit Public Library, and Akron Public Schools.
In 1995, she joined the county Auditor's Office of James B. McCarthy
as a Public Information Officer. She established an employee
newsletter and developed a user friendly website and coordinated
appraisal road shows.
Ms. Skapin was appointed Summit County Director of Communications in
March 2001. The county's website was one of her top priorities and
is now visited by over 1 million people each year. She designed and
implemented a national award winning September 11th remembrance art
project. Under her Directorship, the department has received
numerous national awards for design, outreach and speechwriting.
She currently serves on the following boards: Regional Arts &
Cultural District, Emergency Management Executive Committee,
Downtown Akron Partnership, The First Tee of Akron, and the Ohio &
Erie Canal National Heritage Corridor Committee. She is also a
member of the Akron Press Club.
Ms. Skapin attended the University of Arkansas and Kent State
University. She moved to Summit County in 1979 and lives in Stow
with her husband, Jeff Skapin. They have two daughters, Sarah and
Annie. They also have two grandchildren - granddaughter Clara and
grandson, John Henry, IV.
