As a law student at the University of Akron, Brad Gessner began his career as a legal intern in the City of Canton’s Prosecutor’s Office in 1984. After serving Canton as an Assistant City Prosecutor, he moved to the Medina County Prosecutor’s Office serving as the juvenile prosecutor, and later as a prosecutor in the adult felony section. He also worked prosecuting violent offenders in the Mahoning County Prosecutor’s Office. Having served over 12 years in prosecution, he left for five years to join a civil practice at the Youngstown law firm of Harrington, Hoppe, and Mitchell, Ltd. After becoming a partner at HHM, the largest law firm in the tri-county area of Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, in 2001 he decided to return to prosecution at the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office. A native of Northeast Ohio, Brad worked for six years for Prosecutor Sherri Bevan Walsh in the Violent Crimes Unit before being named Chief Assistant Prosecutor of the Criminal Division in March of 2007.
