COMMUNICATIONS BUREAU

The Summit County Sheriff's Office Communications Bureau is the central answering point for all radio transmissions and telephone calls within the office. The Bureau provides dispatching services to three agencies within the county, Springfield Township Police Department, Lakemore Village Police Department and Northfield Center Township Fire Department in addition to meeting the needs of the Sheriff's Office. The Bureau is comprised of an assistant director, communications supervisor, 15 full time dispatchers and
7 part time dispatchers.

The dispatchers working in the Radio Room are responsible for answering 9-1-1 calls as well as calls of a non-emergency nature. More than 300,000 phone calls were received in 2003 including 15,915 wireless 9-1-1 calls.

Dispatchers utilize a state-of-the-art, computer-aided dispatch system to assist them in dispatching resources to various incidents. This computer system allows the dispatcher to pinpoint the exact location of an incident using a database comprised of all addresses in the count
